Entity and activity description
To ensure the availability of the plant by maintaining the mechanical equipment according to Air Liquide standards and by applying best maintenance practices. Minimize shutdown time by planning and controlling allocated tasks. Participate in investigating and taking corrective actions in the event of mechanical failures and or incidents. Ensuring that Air Liquide’s safety policy is applied by executing scheduled inspections. Execute mechanical isolation and de-isolation to approved safety and legal requirements.
Applies mechanical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational mechanical machinery. Assembles and tests experimental mechanical devices, pumps and other mechanical equipment and components according to engineering data and knowledge of mechanical principles

Missions and Responsibilities
Diagnoses cause of all mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and perform preventative and corrective maintenance
Develops layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansion, and directs personnel performing routine installation and maintenance duties.
Plans, directs, and records periodic mechanical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards
Inspect mechanical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Ensure mechanical equipment reliability through scheduled inspections and pro-active actions.
Ensure all Safety and mechanical inspections are completed and up to date.
Ensure quality procedures are followed and documentation completed.
Ensure IMS procedures are implemented and maintained as per procedure.
Ensure mechanical plant defects are completed and signed of in the agreed time.
Ensure mechanical equipment reliability through scheduled inspections and pro-active actions
Responsible for the mechanical spare parts management.
Ensure reliability and availability of plant by carrying out maintenance to minimize unplanned downtime.

Budget Control
Ensure plant availability of 99.0% and higher for Sasol Synfuels as per contractual agreement.

Competencies and Profile
Qualified Mechanical Trade
Minimum N5 Mechanical qualification
Minimum 5 years hands-on industrial experience.
Good knowledge of cryogenic pumps, pumps in general, gearboxes, cryogenic valves, compressors, turbines, blowers etc
Experience in Computerized Maintenance Management System will be a strong advantage.
Good knowledge of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Knowledge of the OHS regulations
Strong instrumentation and electrical background will be an added advantage.
Experienced in Air Separation Unit will be an added advantage.
